Suicide bombers activated a pair of car bombs outside an Iraqi National Guard compound west of the capital on Sunday, injuring American and Iraqi forces, a U.S. military official said.
The two attackers, who died in the explosions, tried to ram the cars into the base located in Kharma, a town on the outskirts of Fallujah, said the official, according to The AP.
Earlier, US troops have detained a senior commander of the U.S.-trained Iraqi National Guard for alleged ties to resistance elements. Lt. Gen. Talib al-Lahibi, who previously served as an infantry officer in Saddam Hussein's army, was arrested Thursday in the province of Diyala, northeast of Baghdad, said Lt. Col. Steven Boylan, a spokesman for occupation forces in Iraq. (albawaba.com)
