Egypt has launched airstrikes against Daesh in Libya following the release of a video showing the beheading of approximately 21 Coptic Christians the terrorist group had been holding hostage for weeks, reports Associated Press.
According to an official statement by the Egyptian Armed Forces General Command, the strikes were "to avenge the bloodshed and to seek retribution from the killers." The strikes targeted Daesh's weapon caches and training camps.
"Let those far and near know that Egyptians have a shield that protects them," the statement continued.
Daesh claims to have captured the Egyptian Coptic Christians in the city of Sirte in January 2015.
