At least 44 people were killed Thursday after fighting broke out between Houthi fighters and local forces, medics and a military official told AFP.
The sources said 18 of the casualties were civilians. Six of them were local militia defending the internationally recognized government, while 20 were Houthi fighters, according to AFP.
Supporters of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi have been defending the southern port city against Shiite militants, who have advanced to the central part of the city. Aden was a former stronghold for Hadi before Houthi attacks forced him to flee the country.
