A former director of the United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF, has been accused by police of misappropriating funds when in office, the Norwegian press agency NTB said Wednesday.
Police have accused Haavald Heide Schjerven, former director of UNICEF's Water and Sanitation department, of receiving around five million Norwegian kroner (500,000 US dollars) between 1989 and 1996 in kickbacks for UNICEF furniture supply contracts.
