The International Atomic Energy Agency on Thursday rebuffed criticism of its report on Iran's nuclear program by a high-level US figure, who claimed the UN was wrong to reach the conclusion it had no evidence Tehran wanted nuclear weapons.

In the first American reaction to a report by the UN nuclear watchdog, Undersecretary of State John Bolton said the agency's conclusion that there was no proof of an atomic arms program was "impossible to believe."

However, IAEA spokesman Mark Gwozdecky said in response, "We stand by the report, but it's confidential and will be considered at next week's (IAEA) board meeting." (Albawaba.com)
