Russia requested another emergency meeting by the UN Security Council Friday to address the deepening humanitarian crisis in restive Yemen, diplomats told the AFP.
Russia's request for the 15-member council meeting follows warnings from the UN and other humanitarian agencies of a worsening fuel crisis unfolding in the war-torn Gulf nation, as Saudi-led airstrikes continue a month-long airstrike campaign against Shiite Houthi rebels, whose heavy clashes with opposing tribes have accured civilian casualties of their own.
International aid agencies have also accused the Saudi-led campaign of blocking vital medical and food supplies from entering Yemen through sea ports and air, both of which are controlled by Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies.
The meeting is set for 1700 GMT.
