UN Mission in Libya calls for probe into the disappearance of MP Ibrahim Al-Dersi

ALBAWABA - After the disappearance of MP Ibrahim Al-Dersi, the UN Mission to Libya called for launching a probe into the incident, expressing grave concern following reports emerging of the MP being kidnapped.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) called for relevant authorities to immediately investigate the whereabouts of the Al-Dersi, holding the Libyan government responsible for the well-being and safety of the disappeared MP.

The mission condemned what it called "all forms of arbitrary detention across Libya" saying that the Libyan authorities are obligated to respect all forms of human rights and uphold freedoms under the law.

Later on Saturday, Prime Minister-designate of the House of Representatives, Osama Hammad, announced that he is following with great concern, along with the Minister of the Interior and the heads of the relevant security services, the developments in the disappearance of the member of the House of Representatives, Libyan News Agency reported.

Hammad confirmed that security personnel and armed forces are fully alert in hopes of determining Al-Dersi's whereabouts and the circumstances under which he was kidnapped and who is behind it.

According to the statement, and in light of this event, the Ministry of Interior has directed the Benghazi Security Director, the Internal Security Service, and the Criminal Inquiry Service to launch a comprehensive and immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding his kidnapping.

A video circulated on social media showing what is believed to be Al-Dersi's car drenched in blood and ravaged through, while people gathered around it curious to see the vehicle.
