ALBAWABA - According to Israeli media, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has notified Israeli authorities that the UN intends to place Israel on the "Shame List."
Israel has tried to avoid being included on this list, which normally names countries engaged in hostilities that commit grave crimes against children, since Guterres' announcement.
Should the UN's resolution be implemented, it would last four years, increasing fears in Tel Aviv over Israel's weaponry supply.
An Israeli official told Channel 13 that Tel Aviv is trying to obstruct this week's decision. According to the same source, success is unlikely.
Israel's National Security Council and military circles believe the UN will formally label the Israeli force a child killer. This categorization would include Israel in child recruitment, sexual exploitation, murders, and school or hospital assaults, among other offenses.
UNICEF considers the Gaza Strip the most dangerous place for children. 90% of Gaza's youngsters lack basic nutrition, according to UNICEF.
UN estimates show that 15,000 children have died in wars, with almost 900,000 displaced and unable to get water, food, and medication.
UNICEF said "In Gaza, prolonged conflicts and humanitarian aid restrictions have led to the breakdown of food and health systems, resulting in dire consequences for children and their families."
