ALBAWABA- Ukrainian drones have targeted a Russian naval base on the Caspian Sea for the first time, striking the port of Kaspiysk in Dagestan, nearly 1,000 miles from Ukraine, early on Wednesday morning.

The attack, which involved four drones, hit Russian warships, including the missile ships Tatarstan and Dagestan, according to the Telegraph.

Ukrainian military intelligence claimed responsibility, stating that the assault caused significant damage to the vessels.

Footage of the attack shows a drone crashing into the port, with Russian sailors scrambling for cover as machine guns open fire.

According to the Baza Telegram channel, the drone involved was identified as an A-22 Flying Fox, a slow yet long-range drone converted from a small light aircraft.

In the aftermath of the assault, Makhachkala's airport was temporarily closed, and the port of Kaspiysk, located just 10 miles from Makhachkala, sustained damage.

The attack marks a significant escalation in Ukraine's use of drones against Russian targets far beyond the front lines.
