ALBAWABA - In a strategic response to the recent attack on the Russian ship Novocherkassk in Feodosia port, Ukraine's Defense Ministry has revealed a remarkable transformation – the vessel is now a fully functional submarine. The move is seen as a significant development in the ongoing tensions between Ukraine and Russia.

Late on the night of December 26, the Novocherkassk, a Russian ship, became the target of an attack in the Feodosia port. Ukraine's Defense Ministry, in a statement, disclosed that Ukrainian forces swiftly adapted the vessel, turning it into a submarine. The modification, carried out by skilled Ukrainian pilots, underscores the nation's commitment to bolstering its maritime capabilities.

The statement from the Defense Ministry also reiterated Ukraine's stance on Crimea, asserting that the region belongs to Ukraine, with no room for an occupying fleet. This bold move comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the area.

Reacting to the incident, UK Defense Minister Grant Shapps emphasized the changing dynamics in the Black Sea region. Shapps noted that the destruction of a significant portion of Russia's Black Sea Fleet in the past four months signals a challenge to Russia's dominance in the area. He further highlighted the collaborative efforts of the new Maritime Capability Coalition, led by the United Kingdom and Norway, in supporting Ukraine's maritime endeavors.
