The United Arab Emirates has ordered a squadron of F-16 warplanes to be sent to Jordan to support it in strikes against Daesh, according Emirates News Agency WAM and Reuters.

Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Zayed Al-Nahayan, the deputy head of the armed forces, ordered the move to station the jet fighters in Jordan, WAM reported.

"This is a big boost and will be helping our brothers shorten their flying distances and intensify strikes against the militants from Jordan," an army source told Reuters on condition of anonymity.

Earlier this week the US had announced that the UAE had withdrawn their planes from coalition airstrikes when Jordanian pilot Muath al-Kasasbeh was captured by Daesh in December.
