UAE President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan has undergone a successful kidney transplant operation on Monday, reported the daily Gulf News, quoting a statement by the presidential court.

The surgery took place at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.

In July, the Emirati President underwent medical tests in Geneva, reported AFP, adding that he was last admitted to a private hospital in December for medical tests.

The center has treated several Arab dignitaries including the late King Hussein of Jordan and King Khaled of Saudi Arabia, said AFP.

Kidney transplants are "overwhelmingly successful and post-operative complications for transplant patients are few," according to the clinic's website.

"On average, 85-90 percent of kidney transplants are successful for at least two years ... and most for many years more," it continued - (Several Sources)
