The general secretariat of municipalities in the UAE lifted Wednesday its ban on most brands of Asian soya sauce.

The ban on certain brands of soya sauce was lifted after tests found that most were safe for consumption, reported the Gulf News.

The ban was imposed on July 18 after the British Food Standards Agency warned consumers to avoid certain brands of soya sauce from Thailand, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore, after finding excessive levels of 3-monochloropropane or 3-MCPD, a carcinogen.

"All soya sauce found in the market is well within the safety limits," head of the municipality's food control section, Khalid Sharif, was quoted in the paper as saying.

"The safety of our consumers is of utmost importance to us and we will never compromise on that," he said – Albawaba.com
