The United Arab Emirates on Monday declared that the council of ministers approved in a session earlier in the day a memo by the foreign ministry concerning opening an embassy in the Afghan capital, Kabul.

The session was headed by Emirates' Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum.

The UAE foreign ministry sent a delegation to Kabul last month in preparation for opening an embassy there. The delegation met Afghan interim foreign minister Abdullah Abdullah.

The UAE ambassador to Pakistan is currently handling his country's consul and diplomatic interests in and with Afghanistan until the new embassy is opened. (albawaba.com)
