The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation will set up two major camps for Afghan refugees in their home country on the Chaman border, according to Ibrahim Bu Melha, Dubai's attorney general and vice chairman of the foundation.
The official told the official Emirati news agency (WAM) on Wednesday that the foundation was the sole humanitarian organization in the world to have so far been granted permission by both Afghan and the Pakistani authorities to set up camps for the thousands of refugees in Afghanistan.
"It is a great achievement for UAE and a reward for the efforts of the foundation, which launched a relief campaign to help the Afghan refugees on the instructions of General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the crown prince of Dubai and the UAE's minister of defense,” Bu Melha said.
On Monday, a humanitarian aid shipment from the UAE for Afghan refugees arrived in Mashhad, in northeastern Iran, reported the official Iranian news agency (IRNA).
The shipment included 40 tons of food and was the first part of a delivery of 150 tons to Afghan refugees, IRNA said, adding that the president of the UAE's Red Crescent association, Mohammed Nasser Al Swaidi, accompanied the consignment.
The Emirati official held talks with local authorities of the northeastern Iranian province of Khorrassan regarding setting up an airlift of aid from the UAE to Mashhad, as well as to Zahedan in southeastern Iran, IRNA said – Albawaba.com
