UAE’s Ajman Emirate is planning to set up a third industrial area to accommodate the increasing number of manufacturing establishments seeking to open up in the area, reported Khaleej Times on Thursday.
Citing Mohammed Abdullah Al Hamrani, director general of the emirate’s chambers of commerce and industry, the daily said that the chamber has agreed with Al Tatweer company for the latter to prepare Ajman-based industrial companies for the ISO quality certification, he said the initiative was aimed at increasing the competitive advantages of these companies.
"The move is to encourage the industrial and manufacturing establishments operating in Ajman to develop their business and improve their competitive edge in the domestic, regional and international markets," Al Hamrani was quoted as saying.
According to official statistics, more than 10 percent of the number of industrial plants in the UAE are located in Ajman. A variety of products are manufactured by Ajman factories.
Among products made in the emirate are foodstuff, beverages, tobacco, readymade garments, leather and shoes. They also include wood, furniture, wooden decoration, paper and paper products and carton boxes. Furthermore, Ajman-based industries include chemicals, plastics, non-metal mineral products (e.g. cement, bricks, marble, tiles, mosaic etc.) basic metal industries such as iron, steel, steel bars, pipes, precision dies, aluminium rolling, sheltering and extrusion as well as iron trunks and tanks -- Albawba.com
