Two Palestinians sentenced to death for collaborating with Israel were executed by firing squad at the same time Saturday morning in Gaza City and in the northern West Bank town of Nablus, a Palestinian police officer was quoted by AFP as saying.
Palestinian justice minister Frieh Abu Meddein announced on Friday that the two will be executed on Saturday after Palestinian President Yasser Arafat confirmed their sentences, justice minister Freih Abu Meddein was quoted by AFP as saying.
Arafat refused to commute the sentences to life imprisonment and the executions are set to take place in Nablus and Gaza City in Palestinian police barracks, he said.
Majdy Maqawi, 28, will be executed by firing squad after a Palestinian Authority security court in Gaza City sentenced him Thursday for providing Israeli security services with information that allowed them to kill three members of the Fateh movement, said the agency.
Allam Beni Ouda, 24, was sentenced December 7 by a counterpart court in the West Bank for assisting Israeli forces in the car bomb killing of his cousin, Ibrahim who was a member of Hamas movement.
He was killed three days after he was released from prison in Nablus.
His death triggered the anger of thousands of Palestinians across the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
