Two Iranians were killed and several others arrested Tuesday after violent clashes erupted between residents of a village in western Iran and several men in charge of implementing a local dam project, reported the official Iranian news agency (IRNA), quoting a press report.

The daily Hambastegi said the clashes broke out after residents of Sar Tang angrily attacked those engaged in the dam project in protest of losing part of their farmlands, which lay within the dam basin.

The villagers were also angry at not being employed to contribute to the dam project, Hambastegi said.

The mob also damaged several banks and post offices, it added - Albawaba.com
