Palestinian fighters lightly wounded an Israeli in a shooting attack near the village of Hares, South-East of Tulkarem, Israel Radio reported Friday. Also Friday, another Israeli was wounded after Palestinians fired mortars into the Northern Gaza Strip.
These attacks came as The Islamic Jihad resistance group on Thursday reasserted its commitment to preserving “the calm,” a reference to the de facto cease-fire with Israel.
A leader of the group, Khaled Al-Batsh, said the group wouldn’t take any unilateral actions with regard to Israeli provocative actions. “We will consult and coordinate with the various Islamic and nationalist forces in this regard. The Islamic Jihad will do its utmost to preserving Palestinian national unity.”
Al-Batsh called on Arab and Muslim states as well as the international community to condemn the Israeli policy of assassination which he described as a “policy of murder and physical liquidation of innocent people.”
“This amounts to an open call for murder. This makes Israeli leaders and commanders and soldiers war criminals,” the Palestinian news agency, WAFA, quoted him as saying.
