Turkey’s Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit kicked off his campaign for re-election on Sunday with an attempt to strengthen his shaky power base, the Democratic Left Party (DSP), which has suffered a massive bloodletting with nearly half its parliamentary deputies defecting.
The ailing 77-year-old premier made his first public address in months, speaking from the top of a bus at Duzce, a town shattered by an earthquake in 1999, according to AFP.
Ecevit said, "I hope our people will understand the importance of the DSP." (Albawaba.com)
