On Tuesday, Turkish security forces arrested some 400 would-be illegal immigrants who allegedly planned to sneak into Europe, Anatolia news agency reported.
Amongst the detainees were 252 Turks, who were rounded up along with two Iraqis and a Syrian on the Aegean coast, where they were waiting for a boat to take them clandestinely to Greece, the agency added.
Three Afghans and two Iranians were captured in the same region while preparing to sail to a nearby Greek island on a dinghy. In the eastern province of Agri, which borders Iran, security forces discovered 105 Afghans and Iraqis travelling without documents in a truck, Anatolia said.
Another 40 people from Afghanistan and Iraq were found hiding in a barn in a nearby town. Dozens of would-be immigrants are captured daily in Turkey, a major route for Asian and African migrants seeking to enter Europe illegally with the help of smuggling rings. (Albawaba.com)
