ALBAWABA - In a way to pave the road for peace as planned between Hamas, the United States and Israel, the Palestinian group decided to dissolve the governing body in the Gaza Strip.
Sources related to Hamas reported that the group has decided to dissolve its administrative committee, which runs the Gaza Strip, as a "goodwill gesture" to pave the way for the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza to assume its responsibilities in the Strip.
The National Committee, headed by Ali Shaath, was formed by the Peace Council established by US President Donald Trump after he mediated the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel last October.
A Hamas source told AFP that the movement "has decided to dissolve the administrative committee (the Hamas government) in Gaza, and a nationally acceptable figure will be appointed to oversee the committee's work. The committee will become a caretaker committee until the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza officially assumes its governmental duties in the Strip."
