Turkey's Gate Elektronix announced Friday that it will sign a 10-million-dollar contract with the UAE Navy to supply the Gulf state with electronic tracking system, reported the Gulf News.

"We are signing the contract very soon. A few small things have to be finalized," said Turgay Maleri, president of Gate Electronix.

The electronic tracking system (Gatelog Vehicle Tracking System) provides on-screen display which can track vehicles on the Internet.

Meanwhile, a senior Turkish defense ministry official told the paper that the present economic crisis in the country may delay the award of major contracts which are in the pipeline.

“Turkey was expected to make a major announcement for the delivery of battle tanks to the UAE in coming weeks. Now this might be delayed to some time this summer,” the official added.

The said contract is valued at over 6 billion dollars, said the paper.

"We will overcome the financial situation. It is only over the last five years that our defense industry has seriously looked at the export potential,” the official added.

"The Gulf states are obviously our main export targets, as is Pakistan and the Far East," he concluded – Albawaba.com
