Turkey plans to increase security after a series of cyberattacks disrupted government websites and banks last week, a government spokesman told the Associated Press.

Ibrahim Kalin, a spokesman for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, told the AP Monday that the government was investigating the source of the attacks.

The hacking collective Anonymous "declared war" on Turkey and threatened retaliation for the country's alleged support for Daesh by purchasing its oil. Turkey continues to deny this claim. Others have suggested the Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attacks may have come from Russia in response for Turkey's downing of a Russian plane, however Anonymous has claimed responsibility for the cyberattacks.
