At least eight people died in Turkey Sunday after clashes erupted between rival candidate supporters at municipal election polls and the referendum on the ruling prime minister, according to Agence France Presse.
Two families backing opposing candidates in Sunday's municipal election vote allegedly broke out into a gun fight in the eastern province of Sanliurfa which lies on the Syrian border.
Security officials reported that at least eight people were killed in the clash.
Two people were also reportedly killed in Hatay province in a similar clash.
Sunday's poll is both for the municipal vote and a referendum on Turkey Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan's rule, after corruption scandals surfaced late last year over the PM's money laundering and related activities.
