"The simultaneous attacks", on Monday, in Ben Guerdane (governorate of Medenine) by militant groups aimed to destabilise the security system and establish a "Daesh" emirate in the region," said Prime Minister Habib Essid.
In a televised address delivered, on Monday, to the Tunisian people, Essid said that several extremists were neutralised and other arrested thanks to the efforts exerted by the security and military forces.
He also said that measures were taken to prevent any eventual threat, including the establishment of a curfew in the city from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Essid called on the citizens in the region to support the efforts of the security and military forces by complying with the provisions of the curfew.
"An extensive search operation will be conducted to ensure the presence or not of [militants] in the city", further added the Prime Minister.
Besides, he underlined the importance of co-ordination and anticipatory action of the security forces who, he said, favour "a rapid and efficient reactions" commending the courage of the local people of Ben Guerdane.
Militant groups attacked, on Monday at dawn, a military barrack and two districts of the national guard of Ben Guerdane. According to a recent toll, during the clashes between the security formations and the fighters, 36 were killed among the militants and 11 were martyred among the security and military force. Seven civilians were also martyred during these events.
