Tunisian journalist Taoufik Ben Brick, who staged a six-week hunger strike in protest at the human rights record of his country's government, arrived in Tunis on Thursday.

Ben Brick, who quit Tunisia for France on May 4, was accompanied by MPs from the European parliament and the secretary general of the press rights group Reporters Sans Frontieres (Reporters without Borders), Robert Menard.

He began his hunger strike on April 3 because of harassment by Tunisian security officials over articles he had written for the European press criticizing his country's record on human rights.

On Tuesday, Ben Brick told AFP: "I simply came to France to rest. Far from Tunisia, I don't exist.” – TUNIS (AFP)
