Tunisian foreign ministry announced Thursday the resumption of diplomatic ties with Sudan after almost a decade of rupture, reported the Kuwaiti News Agency (KUNA)
The foreign ministry said in a statement released in Tunis that after the contacts the governments of both countries decided to "reactivate their relations and the resumption of diplomatic representation between Tunis and Khartoum" based on "transparency and clearance that rest on mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs according to the UN and the Arab League conventions ...".
The relations between both countries turned very tense since the eve of the nineties for what was considered by Tunis as support by the Sudan for "terrorism" through hosting leader of the banned Tunisian Islamic Nahdha Movement, Rashed al Ghannoushi, and handing him a Sudanese passport. But bilateral relations witnessed a breakthrough after the Afro-Afro meetings that grouped the foreign ministers of both Arab states - Albawaba.com
