ALBAWABA- U.S. President Donald Trump said he had a “very successful” phone call with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, where they discussed the situation in Gaza, military preparations, and progress against the Houthis in Yemen.
Trump shared on Truth Social that the conversation covered “many topics, including possible solutions for Gaza.”
The call comes amid reports of deep disagreements between the U.S. and Egyptian leadership over the future of Gaza.
Trump previously floated a controversial proposal to displace Palestinians from Gaza and turn the territory into an investment hub—an idea widely condemned by Egypt and other Arab nations.
In contrast, El-Sisi has put forward a plan, endorsed by the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, to rebuild Gaza over five years without displacing its residents. The U.S. and Israel have dismissed the proposal as unrealistic.
Meanwhile, Israeli sources claim that Israel has asked the U.S. to pressure Egypt into dismantling military positions in the Sinai Peninsula, citing security concerns.
The presence of Egyptian forces in Sinai has been a longstanding issue between the two countries, as it reportedly violates the peace agreement.
Trump’s call with El-Sisi may have touched on this sensitive matter, as regional tensions continue to rise.
