Tragedy in Egypt: 18 girls killed in a traffic accident

ALBAWABA - Egyptian security and medical sources reported that 19 people were killed and three others injured on Friday in a collision between a heavy truck and a microbus on the regional road near Ashmoun Center in Menoufia Governorate in the Nile Delta.

According to Egyptian media, a trailer truck collided with a microbus that was transporting female day laborers from their homes in the village of Kafr El-Sanabseh to their workplaces in the Nile Delta, 100 kilometers north of Cairo. 

The funerals of the 18 girls took place en masse in a solemn scene that sparked widespread sympathy and grief on social media, while security forces arrested the truck driver responsible for the accident.

According to a list of the victims' names and ages published by official media, the workers' ages ranged from 14 to 22. Media outlets described the girls as "martyrs of their livelihood."
