Three women plan to stand in Bahrain's parliamentary elections next month in spite of the defeat of all 31 female candidates in last May's local polls, a newspaper reported Sunday.
Ghaniyeh Rajab, Faeza al-Zayani and Esmat Musawi have joined fifty men who have thus far announced they would run for the Gulf kingdom's 40-seat parliament on October 24, Al-Ayyam said. Candidacies will be registered as of September 14th.
None of the 31 female candidates managed to clinch a seat on municipal councils elected in May.
An estimated 243,000 Bahrainis, out of a majority Shiite Muslim population of 650, 000, are eligible to vote in the first legislative elections since 1973. (Albawaba.com)
