Three Algerian soldiers were killed in clashes with Islamic rebels, and a policeman was stabbed to death in the Kabylie province, east of Algiers, local press reports said on Wednesday.
Two soldiers died in fighting with Islamic extremists on Tuesday in Tala Bounane, near the town of Tizi Ouzou, where the policeman died after being knifed, said the daily Le Matin.
Another solider died and two were wounded in an attack using homemade rebel "heb-heb" mortars near the town of Dellys, 70 kilometers (43 miles) east of Algiers.
The incidents brought the number of people killed in Algeria this month to more than 140 according to a toll compiled from press reports.
Most of the killings have been blamed on the hardline GIA and the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC), which both rejected a conditional amnesty offered by the government to extremist groups in July 1999.
