Three people were injured Wednesday after a bomb exploded outside a radio station on the central Philippine island of Negros, a police official said.

The bomb, made of "military-type explosive," blasted a large hole in the outside wall of radio station DYHP in Bacolod city.

It also destroyed the station's emergency power generator and shattered windows in buildings across the street, police bomb expert Demy Montoya said.

Two bystanders were slightly wounded by flying debris while the station security guard was knocked out by the blast, Montoya added.

Montoya said he suspected a former military or policeman had planted the bomb as most civilians would not be familiar with the type of explosive used.

Authorities suspect the blast may be part of a campaign to force the ouster of the Bacolod police chief after he sacked several policemen for alleged involvement in crimes several months ago – BACOLOD June 6 (AFP)
