US Taconic Industrial Products LLC of Petersburgh is suing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for about $3 million, Biz-journals reported.
A federal judge ruled March 13th that Taconic has a case and denied the Saudis' motion to dismiss the suit, it added.
Taconic, which manufactures and markets composite materials, produced and supplied Saudi Arabia with 330,000 square meters of durable, fireproof fabric in 1998 to build about 40,000 tents for religious pilgrims.
Michael Savage, representitive of Taconic in New York City was quoted by the news service as saying “Taconic claims that it has not been paid in full for the material and is seeking the balance from the Saudis.”
The suit was filed in 1999 with the US District Court in Albany on behalf of Taconic's parent, Tonoga Ltd., an Irish company with its principal place of business in Rensselaer County.
The case names as defendants Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Public Works and Housing, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Werner Voss Architects and Engineers of Ascheberg, Germany, and Werner Voss.
In 1997, Taconic won a contract to provide the ministry with Solus 1420 fabric, a lightweight, flexible Teflon-coated fiberglass material. The contract was worth about $30 million, said Steve Denbow, market manager for Taconic's architectural fabrics division – Albawaba.com
