ALBAWABA- Ten workers, including six women, tragically lost their lives, and at least 10 others suffered severe injuries in an explosion at a firecracker unit in Sengamalapatti near Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu.
The incident took place in Sivakasi, known as India's fireworks hub, when a fire broke out at a private firecracker manufacturing unit located in Virudhunagar district.
Upon receiving the news, police and fire service personnel rushed to the scene to initiate rescue operations and evacuated the injured to the government hospital.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief, stating, "Anguished by the loss of lives due to a mishap at a factory in Sivakasi. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. I pray that those who have been injured recover at the earliest."
The Tamil Nadu government also pledged support, announcing financial assistance of 25 lakh rupees each to the families of the deceased from the Chief Minister's relief fund. Additionally, they committed to providing 10 lakh rupees each to the families of the seriously injured.
