In April this year the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority was quick to offer its full support for the launch of MECOM a major telecoms and communications event. The event will be both an exhibition and conference that will take place at the new Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from April 22-25, 2007.
Mr Mohammed Nasser Al Ghanim, Director General of the TRA said at the time, "I am delighted to give my full backing to this event. I believe MECOM will become a major industry showcase combined with a strong conference programme that will stimulate discussion concerning best practices in all areas of telecommunications."
Etisalat swiftly followed the lead of the TRA and gave their backing to MECOM. In a support letter from Mohammed Khalfan Al Qamzi, the Chief Executive Officer Of Etisalat he stated, "On behalf of Emirates Telecommunications Authority (Etisalat) it gives me great pleasure to confirm our support of MECOM 2007, as well as our participation in the trade fair and the MECOM Congress."
Mr Osman Sultan, Chief Executive Officer of du (Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company) met early with the organisers to plan exhibit space, sponsorship and speaking at the conference. He wrote an enthusiastic support letter in which he said, "It is my privilege and pleasure to confirm that Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company – du – will support and be an integral part of MECOM 2007".
MECOM is organised with the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi who has supported a wide variety of initiatives within the United Arab Emirates to make the country a regional centre of technological excellence.
The TRA believe that with such strong early support for MECOM that it will become a highly successful and prestigious event. Seven halls have been booked for the exhibition and already over 50% of the exhibit space has been reserved with bookings from key leading industry companies such as Alcatel.
Work is already progressing well to host a number of international pavilions from countries including the UK, Germany, Italy, France, USA, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, India, Korea, Iran, South Africa and Scandanavia.
