Iran's security forces have foiled twenty-five "terrorist schemes" by the Mujahedden Khalq group since the beginning of January in Tehran and several other cities close to Iraq, a statement by the interior ministry was quoted by the Iranian News Agency as saying Sunday.
A number of the organization members were killed, and several others were arrested during the operations, said the statement.
The statement also said that the security forces seized during the operations four mortar-launchers, 45 mortar shells, 32 grenades, four handguns, two cellular phones and over 20 forged ID cards.
"The group aims to topple the Islamic government by armed confrontation, terrorist operations, militarism and violent and subversive acts," said the statement.
The outlawed organization has its headquarters in neighboring Iraq, with members scattered also in Europe and northern America.
Earlier this month, Iran's interior minister, Ali Yunessi, said that the "group was gradually losing its strength, and getting closer to their dying day." -- Albawaba.com
