In Tehran: 11 Iranian MPs Test Positive For Covid-19, Three Die

In a statement carried by Tasnim news agency, she noted that 2,414 more infections were reported over the last 24 hours as of Monday.

Member of the Iranian Shura Council Hosseinzadeh Bahreini has tested positive for COVID-19 and is now placed under home quarantine, Fars News Agency reported.

This brings the number of Iranian lawmakers infected with the new coronavirus to 11, three of whom have died, according to the agency.

Iranian parliamentarians are criticized for not committing to appropriate health measures including social distancing during the sessions, according to German news agency (DPA).

The spokeswoman for Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education, Sima Sadat Lari, said that the number of virus cases in the country have reached 276,202 with 217 deaths, bringing the total of deaths in the country to 14,405.

In a statement carried by Tasnim news agency, she noted that 2,414 more infections were reported over the last 24 hours as of Monday.

Lari added that the combined tally of patients who have survived the deadly infection reached 240,087, whereas 3,583 patients are still undergoing intensive medical care for their critical condition.

According to the health spokeswoman, 2,175,217 lab tests for COVID-19 have been carried out in the country as of Monday.

Last week, President Hassan Rouhani said that some 25 million Iranians may have been infected with coronavirus, indicating that “there is the possibility that between 30 and 35 million more people will be at risk.”

Rouhani’s office said the number of infections was based on an “estimated scenario” from a health ministry research report.
