Tanmia, the National Human Resources Development and Employment Authority, highlighted its achievements and outlined future goals during its participation at the Emiratisation Future Conference, which was held recently at the Al Murooj Rotana Hotel in Dubai. The keynote address at the conference was delivered by former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.
At the conference, Tanmia gave a presentation on the success it has achieved in creating job opportunities for UAE Nationals and reducing the unemployment ratio. Tanmia also gave a detailed account of the periodic training programs it undertakes to enhance the basic skills and competence of National students and jobseekers, while outlining its goals and strategies for the future.
Commenting on Tanmia’s participation at the conference, Mr. Ayesh Al Barguthi, Director of the Employment and Skills Development Center at Tanmia said, “Tanmia highlighted the leading role it is playing in the overall development of UAE National jobseekers and in finding them suitable job opportunities. We have joined hands with several companies in the private sector and have impressed on them the benefits of hiring National jobseekers. As a result, many private firms have stepped up the recruitment of UAE Nationals. Tanmia is resolved to build on the success achieved in past years and more actively pursue the Emiratisation drive.”
“Although there is a wealth of National talent qualified to take up challenging professions, the number of UAE Nationals employed is not much, even with there being 300,000 vacancies every year in the country. Tanmia is determined to change this scenario,” Al Barguthi added.
33,503 UAE Nationals applied for various public and private sector jobs in the country between the end of 2001 till December 2005. Abu Dhabi had the highest number of National jobseekers at 11,727, while Dubai accounted for 7,714 job applicants. A total of 2,208 National jobseekers found placement at various organizations. Of the successful jobseekers, 33 per cent were employed in the trading sector, with the public sector and the banking industry coming next with 25 per cent and 17 per cent respectively.
The Emiratisation Future Conference discussed issues pertaining to the employment prospects of UAE Nationals and sought to assess where they stand presently in the UAE job market. Measures that enable Nationals to play a more important role in the UAE business and private sectors were also debated.
