Taliban suicide bombers and gunmen conducted a coordinated attack on Afghan parliament during a morning session on Monday.
Fatullah Qaisari, a lawmaker from northern Faryab province, told Anadolu Agency that several explosions were heard outside the compound but the gunmen were not able to enter the building.
"The attackers have stationed in a building opposite the parliament compound and are firing toward the house," Qaisari said.
He said the lawmakers had been taken to a safe house and that some had been wounded by broken glasses.
The Taliban have claimed that several attackers are inside parliament while Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said special forces had been deployed to bring the situation under control.
