Syria's National Coalition has praised the US's decision to fund rebels fighting President Bashar Al-Assad's government, the AP has reported.

The group described President Barack Obama's decision as a "move forward".

Until last month Mr Obama had not been in favour of arming the rebels
because of fears weapons could end up in the hands of Islamist groups linked to Al-Qaeda.

However the US administration has said it will only provide weapons to those rebels who have been vetted.

The SNC on Thursday said it was committed to keeping a tight reign over the weapons, and that all efforts would be made to ensure extremist groups would not reach them.
