Syria's Nusra Front, which is currently fighting against the Syrian government, has been banned by the UK, the Associated Press has reported.
The ban means that belonging to the Al-Quaeda tied group will now prove a criminal offense.
The Nusra Front, which also goes by the name Jabhat al-Nusra, will join a litany of
other organisations which are outlawed by the British government, such as Al-Qaeda.
The government expressed Friday its concerns that the Nusra Front is nothing more than a pseudonym for Al-Qaeda. It is concerned that Islamist terror is becoming a significant threat in the region, and, because of Syria's relative proximity to Europe, that it therefore poses a threat to to the United Kingdom.
