Syrian regime troops recaptured parts of a major oilfield located in the central province of Homs seized by Daesh militants two days ago, AFP reported.

“Regime forces and allied gunmen retook control of parts of the Jazal oilfield in the Homs countryside which ISIS (Daesh) had captured 48 hours earlier,” the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights told AFP.

The monitor group added that Daesh militants remained in control of a housing complex for oil workers in Jazal and that clashes were ongoing nearby.

This is the second time control of the oilfield has changed hands, with Daesh militants briefly capturing it in June. When in operation, the Jazal oilfield produced 2,500 barrels of oil per day, AFP reported.
