Syrian government forces have continued their offensive, gaining more grounds in their fight against Daesh and other militant groups near the northern city of Aleppo.
In the most recent advances, the army managed to recapture several towns and villages, including the town of al-Ays, on the outskirts of Aleppo on Tuesday.
The army regained control of Ays following heavy clashes with militants in the city of Hadir, which led to the city’s liberation.
The recapture of Ays is considered a strategically-important victory for the army since Ays is located in the middle of a highway that connects Aleppo to the Syrian capital, Damascus.
Syrian forces have recently been making rapid advances against militants in several parts of the country.
The advances of the Syrian government forces against Daesh and other militant groups have been expedited by the air cover provided by Russia, which began on September 30.
The crisis in Syria, which flared in March 2011, has so far claimed the lives of over 250,000 people and displaced nearly half of the country’s population within or out of its borders.
