Syria's ruling Baath party newspaper on Friday said ending the Palestinian uprising "is out of the question" unless Israel withdraws from the occupied territories.
"The Intifada was not launched upon a decision from this or that one, and that's why it will be very difficult to put an end to it," wrote Al Baath.
Ending the uprising "is out of the question because the Intifada is an answer to the continuation of the occupation and to the policy of murder and destruction, its final aim remains the liberation."
Al-Baath's editorial followed an "understanding" early Thursday between the Palestinian Authority and Israel to work to end the violence.
Efforts began to implement the accord early Thursday, before a car bomb blast in west Jerusalem which killed two Israelis threatened to upset the process yet again.
