The Syrian opposition has released photos of General Suleimani, leader of the Al-Quds brigade of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
He’s been absent from news reports lately, but the website “Sham” posted a picture of him with the comment that he’s “returned to make up for the loss of Khan Touman.”
The aforementioned Syrian opposition website said that this comes at a time when Iran is trying to hide huge losses it suffered in Khan Touman, an area of heavy fighting outside of Aleppo.
The Badr Movement, an Iraqi group fighting outside of Aleppo, released photographs and said they show that Qasim Suleimani is in Aleppo in order to lead battles there and restore areas lost by Iranian forces and the mercenaries under their command.
Iran, under Major General Mohsen Rezai, responded by saying extremist groups took advantage of the ceasefire and absence of artillery and planes to launch a surprise attacked Khan Touman, which was previously liberated by the Syrian Army several months ago. He was quoted by the Iranian source “Tasneem.”
Rezai also accused the Saudis and Turks of supporting extremist groups and commended the bravery of the Iranians fighting against them.
He said: “We will catch and severely punish these takfiri zionist agents in retaliation for these martyrs. The final victory, God willing, will be for the Syrian people, their government, and Iran.”
An assistant to the Iranian Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs, Hossein Amir Abdallahaan, said that the Iranian military advisers in Syria will be there to combat terrorism as long as Damascus wants them to, as quoted by Iranian news agencies.
