A military cargo plane crashed Sunday night in the Syrian Province of Idlib, killing 35 soldiers belonging to the Syrian army, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and the AFP reported Monday.

The report was confirmed by Syrian state media and army, who claimed that bad weather obscured the planes path. The plane was in the process of landing in Abu al-Duhur military airport when fog allegedly caused it to crash into electrical power-lines, killing all on board.

While few additional details were released the Syrian affiliate of al-Qaida, al-Nusra Front, took to Twitter, claiming the crash as a result of their operation against the Syrian regime and posting pictures of those killed in the crash.
