A free trade agreement between Syria and Iraq, signed two months ago, comes into effect Sunday, reported the BBC.online.

This means that the exchange of goods between the two countries can take place without import licenses or customs fees, said the news service.

It is Iraq's third such agreement with an Arab country since the end of the Gulf war in 1991.

Similar treaties have also been signed with Egypt and Tunisia.

Negotiations are underway to sign a similar agreement with Jordan – Albawaba.com
