A Syrian delegation from President Bashar Al-Assad has met North Korean leader
Kim Jong-Un, the North Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said Thursday.

The North Korean leader "exchanged with the guests views on the issue of boosting the bilateral relations and other issues of mutual concern including the regional situation", KCNA reported.

The Syrian delegation, headed by Abdullah al-Ahmar, Deputy General Secretary of Syria's Baath Arab Socalist Party, is also said to have enjoyed a "cordial talk" with Kim Jong-Un.

North Korea is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Korean War ceasefire, and as such has invited a number of foreign officials to Pyongyang.

However analysts have long suspected that relations between North Korea and the Syrian government are tight, with Pyongyang believed to be helping the Assad regime technologically and militarily.

"Experts from North Korea have been in Aleppo for months", Rami Abdel Rahman, head of London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, told the AFP.

"They oversee miliary operations and help the regime's forces in weapons training. They don't take part in the fighting on the ground, but they give advice".

It is also suspected that North Korea aided Syria in building a nuclear plant that was subsequently destroyed by Israel in 2007, with South Korean media saying the North has may have also tried to export missile technology to Syria.
