According to activists, Syrian government forces have entered Tuesday the strategically important rebel-held town of Selma, located in Latakia province, AFP reports.
Selma serves as the main rebel bastion in the northwestern province.
Government forces fought alongside pro-Assad militias and Hezbollah fighters in fierce clashes against the rebel group, with support from Russian airstrikes, said Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
